For self-drive in Tibet, a provisional Chinese Driver's License and Temporary Vehicle License Plate are required. All the procedures for the vehicle entry of China take about 2 months. It is better to process everything at least 3 months in advance.
Chinese Driver's License
International Driver's License is not applicable in China. Driving in China, you need to apply for a provisional Chinese driver's license. To get this license, you are required to provide your driver's license of your country or the third country as well as take a theory test in local Public Security Traffic Management Bureau.
