Peach trees in Nyingchi area start blooming from mid-March, and it takes around 10 days to get into full blossom and last till late April. The little pink flowers wake up at the advent of the spring, each gathering closely, quietly making a dot painting and finally spreading a gentle warm colored painting in the valley field, at the foothill, halfway up into the mountain, or beside the Tibetan households.

Bome County is famous for its 30km long peach blossom road. Winding through the pink covered road is like traveling in a wonderland of flora. Nature does treat this land well. Take your time, manage your speed in a stable easy way and passengers may glance at the ongoing stream of beauty outside the window, or catch some passing shot luckily.
Note: while the scene is very romantic, the road itself is not wide enough to pull over wherever you’d like given that it is built among mountains. For the sake of your safety and others, please be considerate enough to choose the spot you’d like to stop without risking an accident.
The suitable temperature and ample rainfall in Nyingchi have taken good care of the peach trees. Lots of them are just antique, unbelievably old at the age of hundreds of years or even thousands of years. You may find the tree trunks are in much darker color than those you commonly see at homeland. And on the old black strong trunks, light pink or whitish-pink flowers are blooming. It’s just an amazing combination and a wonder only Nature can make. What kind of power has the old wild-born peach trees maintain to have got through the historical and geographical change, through the time and to proudly present the flowers that look so young.

Nyingchi Peach Blossom
The peach blossom in Nyingchi belongs to alpine species. It’s also called Tibet Peach or Mountain Walnut Tree. The color of the petals is lighter than those you normally find in central parts of China or eastern China. The petals are also relatively smaller except those growing in Bome County. The other difference lies in the density of flowers. Peach blossoms grow more densely together in a branch compared to other species scattered loosely in a tree.
While you may feel overwhelmed by the beautifulness of the scene, the Tibetan people residing here may live their life as usual. Peach trees bring not only aesthetic joy with flowers, but also abundant sweet fruit to share with their guests from afar and their livestock generously. Peach blossom also symbolizes youth and the beauty of love for Chinese. When people wish a friend “May Peach Blossom Luck to You”, that means they hope their friend can find their soul mate.
